Omnidirectional Speaker

An omnidirectional speaker with constant phase 360-degree toroidal dispersion.

Ideation

The goal was to create an ideal speaker with a constant phase and equal amplitude omnidirectional dispersion. An initial model was done in Inventor and Photo realistically rendered using Inventor Studio.

Schematic

The complete assembly was modeled in Inventor to ensure the complete product was ready for production. The assembly’s major components are the Diaphragm, voice coil, magnetic motor, and housing.

Testing and Results

Testing with a calibrated microphone using the Dayton omnimic measurement software shows a dip between 1,500 and 5khz but overall, a very usable response to 20khz. With the use of a conventional woofer, the combination would cover the entire audible spectrum with constant phase and amplitude omnidirectional dispersion, an unprecedented achievement in the Speaker world.

Final Product

The final product utilizes Radial sintered magnets in concentric alignment, twelve carbon fiber elements glues to a voice coil. When the voice coil pushes outward or inward the bent carbon element bend accordingly producing music. An omnidirectional speaker with constant phase 360-degree toroidal dispersion.
