Preliminaries and Requirements
• The goal was to produce a high heat (300f) capable mold with adjustable pressure to simulate autoclave composite curing conditions. Preliminary actions were to source prepreg carbon fiber and cut to blank dimensions on the bias.
Testing
• An aluminum mold with 6 bolts was used to provide torque. A torque wrench is used for repeatable pressure regulation. The mold is treated with PVA and wax mold release in order to lower the surface energy and prevent the composite from sticking to the surface. The initial test shows a high success rate with near-perfect surface quality
Final Product
High yield mold with high repeatability and an easy-to-use process of pressure regulation.
